Everything You Didn't Know You Needed To Know About Jeeps How did the Jeep get its name? The term "Jeep" is a widely debated subject. The most common belief is that the name is derived from the GP designation that the Ford company gave the vehicle, where people blended the two letters together to make a word. With the body of the Jeep raised several inches higher than usual, the Jeep is given more space between the body and the ground and more room for larger, thicker off-roading tires. Ready for the Eco-Jeep? Well, here it is. The new Jeep EV is Chrysler’s new electric Jeep. A four-passenger SUV, the new Jeep EV has both two-wheel and four-wheel drive, electric propulsion, and is classified as an extended range electric vehicle. Sound pretty cool? It has 268 horsepower, 400 N•m (295 lbs.-ft.) of torque, and, with the electric-run system, it has regenerative braking! The Jeep EV has a lithium-ion battery, and you can charge it in two types of outlets with its dual voltage onboard charger: the 110/120 volt outlet, which is the typical household power outlet, and the 220/240 volt outlet, which is what you use for household appliances.
