 The modern Wrangler can be considered to be a direct descendant of the original army jeep. The basic structure has not been changed too terribly much. The Wrangler is still a short and nimble four wheel drive with solid axles designed to be easy to maneuver in off road situations. The engines have grown in size an creature comforts are now available, but the basic structure is not too far removed from the Jeep of the 1940-1950’s.
Modern day army jeeps, if they can be called that are plying the roads and byways of America with many being used for plebian transportation while others are used strictly for play. One of the first things that anyone that is serious about their Jeep does is to make modifications. Larger tires are often chosen to give increased traction and higher ground clearance. Many owners of Jeeps change out the motor to accommodate higher horsepower and lower the gear ratios to keep the overall gearing similar to stock even with the larger tires.
There are perhaps too many places to buy modifications for an army jeep to make a comprehensive list in this format. There are some that do come to mind though. Companies such as Four Wheeler Parts Wholesalers, Rubicon Outfitters and Old Man Emu come to mind providing everything that a Jeep owner could even imagine. Choices range from simply larger tires to locking bead wheels, rollbars, lighting systems, gears, lockers, different axles, lift kits and the list goes on and on.
